Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed track across the globe within six months. The combination of reggaeton and pop music not only brought interest back to this genre but also to Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish mostly, and four tracks in the year 2016. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 mostly Spanish tracks made the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 such songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 as a bilingual rendition. Soon, other artists collaborated with Reggaeton stars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma together with Medellin 2019 The gradual mainstreaming of reggaeton became an issue for some artists in the year 2020. Rauw alejandro and a younger generation wanted to preserve the style. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, as well as other styles was a common practice.
